College Preparedness/Counseling 224 This is a two-unit class. Students will learn strategies For experiencing a successful and meaningful college experience by mastering techniques in notetaking, study habits, time management and much much more. SKILL SCAN is an interactive exercise to help you discover and prioritize your transferable skills. You will gain knowledge regarding what skills you want to use in life and on the job; skills you already have, as well as those skills you need to develop. You will also discard skills you have but prefer not to use. A most valuable insight for making life/career choices. COPES (Career Orientation Placement & Evaluation Survey) will help you inventory values that you consider important in the workplace. Find out if you are the investigative sort or accepting, a leader or more inclined towards the supportive role, social or reserved. Such information will help you maneuver toward the work environment(s) that works best for you. TRUE COLORS What color is your personality and what job(s) does your personality match. Take this fun and easy computer assessment and find out! MICROSKILLS An in-depth assessment of skills. View 72 self Management and transferable skills; determine the top five skills you wish to employ; 10 additional skills of moderate interest and occupations that utilize the skills you’ve chosen. To schedule career testing, contact Alley Young at (510) 981-2908 Interview Techniques : Do you know some questions are illegal to ask in an interview? Have you ever been caught off guard by a question and unable to answer? What do you say to a person who wants to know your weaknesses? Answers to these questions and more are answered in the interviewing workshops offered in the Career Center . Resumes & Cover Letters : Should you prepare a functional resume or a chronological resume? Do you know the difference? Should it be one page or two pages. What about graphics, will that make an impression? Alley Young, Berkeley City College’s career counselor has over 20 years of experience creating professional resumes and cover letters that get attention in the job search. Career Websites : this feature is currently in progress. Berkeley Library Tours : the new and very improved downtown Berkeley Library is only two blocks from Berkeley City College . Docent tours can be arranged upon request. The Berkeley Library offers computers with internet access and research resources for career exploration and the job search. Take advantage of the tour and learn how to efficiently and productively utilize this resource.
