LIBRARY COLLECTION DEVELOPMENT POLICY

The Berkeley City College Library provides a quiet space for research and study, as well as materials for classroom assignments and personal interest. You can help the library maintain their services for all of its users by following these common library guidelines:

1. NO FOOD, DRINKS OR SMOKING.

Please do not bring food, drinks, animals (except aids to disabled persons) into the library.

2. MAINTAIN QUIET so that others in the area may work undisturbed.

Please refrain from telephone and personal conversations.

3. CHECK OUT ALL MATERIALS that you take from library on your student ID card.

Missing or damaged materials are frustrating for the next person who needs to use them. Remember that you are responsible for all materials checked out on your card; do not lend your student ID to another.

Computer Use Policy Short version (full verson follows)

Internet and other related online systems are intended to support the academic mission of  Peralta Community College District. Users must be currently enrolled and present a Peralta Student ID card with a current sticker to use the Library’s computers.
Limit computer use to 30 minutes when someone is waiting.
Do not use Library computers for word processing.
Do not enter or participate in any chat rooms.
Do not play computer games.
Do not download or reconfigure any software.
Be aware that some online sites may be offensive to others. You may be asked to exit such sites.

LIBRARY COMPUTER USE POLICY

Internet and other related online systems are intended to support the academic mission of  Peralta Community College District. Users must be currently enrolled and present a Peralta Student ID card with a current sticker to use the Library’s Internet computers.

All users must sign-up for Internet, noting the start-time of usage and terminal number on the desk’s sign-up sheet.

Thirty (30) minute sessions are allowed.  Patrons are limited to fifty (50) class-related printouts per day.  We ask that no more than two people occupy a single computer station at one time (e.g., John Doe, 12:30 p.m., Terminal #2).

The purpose of the sign-up log is to gather and compile daily operational  statistics.  As the Library does not retain Internet sign-in logs, they are to be discarded  after recording necessary numeral data.

You must purchase a diskette from the Library to download or save to a disk.

Regulations

Academic work and email access takes precedence over the use of college computers for entertainment.  Chat room visits and games are prohibited. Internet services shall not be used in a manner that would violate any law or infringe any copyright, right of publicity, privacy right or any other right of any person or entity. Internet services may not be used for the purpose of transmitting or storing of material that is obscene, libelous or defamatory. Attempts to obtain unauthorized access to or alteration of either local or remote computer systems or networks are strictly prohibited. This means that no one is to download any software onto the system (Hotmail, Yahoo, or other installations).

Users are expected to apply fully with the College and Library’s Rules of Conduct Policy.  Misuse of computer resources may result in the loss of computing access.
 
The Peralta Community College District authorities and/or other law enforcement agencies will deal with any illegal or inappropriate use of Internet and other library resources.
